Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented technical writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation that meets the needs of our customers and employees. You will work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and product managers to gather information and translate it into clear and concise content that enhances the user experience.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-quality technical documentation, including, operator manuals and procedures, training manuals, maintenance manuals, test plans and procedures, and general engineering documentation making it accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences and adhering to company style guides and standards.
  • Write and edit technical content, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and clarify technical details.
  • Manage documentation projects from start to finish, including planning, writing, editing, and publishing.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technical writing standards and best practices.
  • Ensure that the documents are clear, concise, and technically accurate.
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts to increase users understanding,
  • Participate in formal design reviews to generate notes and action items.
  • Deliver oral and written status and progress briefs to program management, executive management as directed.
  • Organize and present information in a logical and coherent manner,

Desired Experience & Attributes:

  • B.S. in a technical discipline is preferred, but not necessarily required for a candidate who has relevant 2 years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret system specifications, assembly/test procedures, engineering drawings, charts, wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Must have strong communication skills (both verbal and written); must be able to take complex, technical information and translate it for customers and colleagues who have nontechnical backgrounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to multitask and create, maintain and manage multiple project objectives according to deadlines.
  • Proficiency in tools such as MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, MarkDown, DITA, VS Code, GitHub, Oxygen, InDesign, Photoshop, SOLIDWORKS Composer, Excel (for general project management purposes).
  • Experience with content management systems and version control systems.
  • Proficient with a range of Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Power Point).
  • Military experience either as a service member or working on military projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Experience working with classified materials.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

    • Ability to travel to Groton, CT facility on short notice.
    • Hybrid expectation: 2 days per week in Groton, CT headquarters required.
