Want to transform how Alexa helps customers stay in touch with people? The Alexa Communications UX Design team is seeking a Senior Voice User Interface / Conversational AI Experience Designer to create natural language interactions that leverage the power of Alexa.

As a Senior Conversation Designer, you will focus on improving how customers use Alexa in their daily lives to stay in touch and communicate with household members, family and friends. You will work side-by-side with UX designers, user researchers, product, and engineering to identify, define, and implement solutions that raise the bar on the Alexa customer experience. You must excel at communicating your designs effectively to the larger team and driving that vision into solid design deliverables. We’re looking for people who are passionate about innovating on behalf of customers, demonstrate a high degree of ownership, and want to have fun while they make history.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Create world-class, user-centered conversation designs with consideration of market research, business requirements, customer feedback, and usability findings
  2. Translate business requirements into use cases and high-level customer experience requirements
  3. Design the architecture and interaction flow of voice experiences
  4. Develop conceptual diagrams, prototypes, and ready-to-implement design specifications or documentation
  5. Write sample dialog interactions and language model training data
  6. Work with data science and engineering teams to assess and optimize new and existing features
  7. Present design work to the user experience team, product team, leadership, and external partners for review and feedback
  8. Develop high level strategy of Alexa Communications features for both near and long term
  9. Collaborate with other design team members on frameworks, processes, design systems, and best practices
  10. Demonstrate leadership in driving design processes into the organization that help refine strategy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 8+ years of design experience
  2. Experience defining and maintaining design patterns and UX standards
  3. Have an available online portfolio
  4. Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps
  5. Experience designing in an agile development environment
  6. Bachelor's degree in linguistics, cognitive science, psychology, human-computer interaction (HCI), design, or equivalent professional experience
  7. 5+ years of professional work experience as a voice/conversation designer or similar UX-related role
  8. Experience working directly with developers for implementation of designs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with voice design tools, such as VoiceFlow, Figma, Adobe XD, Gliffy, Omnigraffle or Visio
  2. Experience designing with tools such as Figma, Adobe CC, InVision, or similar
  3. Professional experience with conversation or natural language interface design, specifically spoken interactions
  4. Experience working with advanced machine learning pipelines
  5. Ability to extract complex concepts and quickly turn around sample interactions reflecting a range of options
  6. Experience designing for LLMs
  7. Deep understanding and leadership on driving conversation design culture for organizations
  8. Ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment
  9. Additional design skills in related fields, including prototyping multimodal interactions
