The Videographer will join a creative team of in-house marketing experts who are responsible for defining, elevating, and protecting the brand identity of Southern Utah University. The videographer will have the opportunity to create relevant, engaging content that supports recruitment, retention, and reputation for SUU. Projects range in scope from commercials, faculty highlights, student life, and specialty videos for social media. This position will work with the entire office to translate ideas and concepts into finished videos for distribution to the web, social, mobile, and TV.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Produces, edits, and distributes media content as required which may include video, photographs, motion pictures, motion graphics, animation, audio, and music. Works evenings, holidays, or weekend hours in order to complete assignments
  • Works closely with the marketing team and/or project director to create storyboards, determine content and format of productions, and coordinate production logistics. Writes and produces video narratives; recommends, determines and procures type of talent needed for voice over work.
  • Oversees all video shoot details including lighting, audio, camera operation, and talent direction. Occasionally conducts interviews and ensures that valuable sound bites are captured. Scouts shoot locations and assesses possible obstacles in filming and provides solutions or alternatives.
  • Edits and assembles final video material creating compelling and visually interesting products; observes brand standards, ensures consistency and relevancy to production, monitors technical quality of end product, takes constructive feedback, and properly archives finished product.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student support staff and interns.
  • Maintains all equipment in proper working order, including troubleshooting and minor repairs as necessary.


Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in film production, broadcast, journalism, or a related field from an accredited university or college OR a relevant industry certification.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work history.
  • Experience in creating storyboards, shot lists, and creative briefs.
  • Experience in operating DSLR cameras, sound recording equipment, composing sequential shots, editing, and archiving.
  • Must be able to manage time/priorities and multi-task to handle both long term projects and projects that require quick or aggressive turn-arounds.
  • Willing to work overtime, evenings, holidays, or weekend hours in order to complete assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of Premier, Photoshop, and After Effects.
  • Must thrive in a collaborative team/work environment.
  • Must be creative and detail oriented.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of professional videography experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with higher education.
  • Graphic design and/or animation experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices for archiving videos.
