Kentucky Educational Television, (KET) has the following full-time position opening at its Lexington, Kentucky Network Center:
KET is Kentucky’s only statewide media organization, serving more than two million people each week with programs and services that educate, inform, and inspire. As the Videographer Supervisor, the individual selected for this role will supervise, direct and lead a team of videographers to ensure effective and successful execution of KET general content, public affairs and educational programs and digital content.
Our ideal Candidate will:
Effectively lead, coach, and mentor team of videographers to implement high standards of creativity, quality, and consistency by providing oversight and timely feedback. Hold regularly scheduled meetings; develop and manage strong relationships with team, review job descriptions as scheduled in order to provide performance oversight and timely feedback to staff, resolve issues and participate in hiring. Evaluate and approve leave requests and time sheets for team in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws. Regularly review video footage with each team member to identify areas for improvement and implementation of new skills and techniques.
Collaborate with other production teams and the Production Operations Manager to ensure effective and successful execution of KET productions and digital content.
Seek and participates in training opportunities related to videography, lighting, and video editing. Offer logistical leadership to productions and acts as crew chief on assigned shoots. Effectively collaborate with team members on equipment by sharing skills, knowledge and production processes and train team members as needed. Seek and participate in applicable training opportunities.
Operate professional studio and field cinema and broadcast cameras for live and recorded productions.
Work independently to create high quality video and accomplish KET production goals. Contribute to and execute the creative and editorial vision of KET productions.
Proficiently uses filters, lenses, and camera stabilization equipment in field production to achieve the appropriate look as requested by the producer/director. Floor directs and operates teleprompter for studio productions as needed.
Shoot, produce, and edit segments and packages as assigned for KET programs.
Assist in assembling, striking, and storing studio sets. Assist in the set-up and striking of production-truck equipment including cameras, cable runs, and camera platforms.
Operate professional production equipment including camera jib, floor dolly, cinema cameras, DSLRs, sliders, gimbals, and Steadicam equipment.
Design professional lighting for sets and remote locations.
Help clean and maintain studio and production equipment. Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of camera equipment. Act as a grip, lighting assistant and/or lighting designer as required. Drive and help clean production vehicles as needed.
Ensure transition to, and training on, new production equipment and standards, and emerging production technologies.
Demonstrate dedication to diversity in areas of responsibility and instill the same dedication in staff.
Monitor production facilities, equipment, and technical capabilities.
As a supervisor, perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.
Successful applicants will have the following minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, with at least five (5) years of professional content production experience in videography, lighting and editing. Must be able to work in a deadline-driven environment in an efficient, creative, and positive manner. Practical experience in television production may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Required experience and skills include editing, experience with professional field video cameras and related equipment, studio build-up cameras, cinema and DSLR cameras. Excellent people management skills: strong communication skills, conflict management and organizational skills, and strong attention to detail are required.
Preferred skills may include limited directing, and FAA sUAS (Drone) certification.
Must have strong computer, oral communications, and professional interpersonal skills; be available on a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and overnight travel and maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
Must be able to move/lift/carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally operate equipment while standing/sitting for extended periods of time.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license to drive KET vehicles.
