CREATIVE ARTS PASTOR

Full-Time, Exempt

The role of the Creative Arts Pastor (CAP) is to oversee all elements of service programming for Heights Church under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs, of Heights Church and the ability to align staff, leadership teams, and serve team with its Mission, Vision, Values and Culture. The CAP will support and lead all components of worship programming including music, audio, video, lighting, creative elements and Collection of Talks implementation.

The Creative Arts Pastor will be responsible for:

1. Modeling Biblical Priorities

Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of Heights Church. The CAP should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The CAP models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). The CAP strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions.

These objectives are accomplished by:
  • Committing to a daily quiet-time with God.
  • Participating in a Heights Church Life group on a regular basis.
  • Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.
  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of Heights Church employees, as defined by the Heights Church Culture Guide.

2. Staff Supervision and Development

Responsible for providing leadership and support to the Creative Arts team. The CAP leads, evaluates and mentors existing creative arts staff and serve team and prioritizes future staffing needs. Includes the following responsibilities:
  • Supervise the creative arts team in day-to-day operational activities.
  • Shepherd and care for the Creative Arts team.
  • Oversee the training and development of the team.
  • Support and strategize with ministry leaders as they recruit and empower serve teams to serve for scheduled programs and any church wide events.
  • Maintain a strong network of relevant professionals (worship leaders, musicians, technical engineers, graphic designers, web developers, etc.)
  • Develop ministry partnerships with outside vendors that share Heights Church's commitment to excellence.

3. Program Planning

Responsible for all details related to the planning and execution of dynamic programs including, but not limited to, weekend worship services, leadership events and other ministry programs. This is accomplished by:
  • Facilitate brainstorm sessions to generate ideas and creative elements for service programming.
  • Interface with communicators to ensure a consistent message is being told in the program details, i.e. music, video, offering setups, next steps, etc.
  • Lead weekly meetings to plan and coordinate music, video, technical, and creative elements to be used in service programming.
  • Develop systems to create detailed scripts at least two weeks prior to the event date including musical, technical, video, and other program notes and assets.
  • Lead regular evaluations and coaching sessions to maintain excellence and monitoring the impact of service experiences.

4. Creative Development

Responsible for implementing and supporting the creative direction of Heights Church, given by the Lead Pastor, including, but not limited to, service programming, promotions and digital media. This is accomplished by:
  • Stay in touch with culture trends to effectively connect the culture with the Gospel.
  • Learn and understand the creative DNA of Heights Church to effectively maximize programming, collection of talks development and promotions.
  • Lead the creative brainstorm meetings for collection of talks, programs and other ministry events in coordination with the Lead Pastor and/or other ministry leads.

5. Collection of Talks Development (COT)

Responsible for working with the Lead Pastor and/or lead communicators to plan and develop Collection of Talks that accomplish the vision and values of the church. This is accomplished by:
  • Schedule COT planning meetings to provide direction to the creative arts team.
  • Create and manage systems/processes to work with all team members/ministries to implement a COT from idea to implementation.
  • Oversee and delegate responsibilities related to creating COT summaries, developing promotional elements and creating service scripts that are fluid, consistent and ultimately accomplish the goals of the COT.

6. Musical Direction

Responsible for working with the Worship Pastor and team to plan and music sets and arrangements that compliment the message for the weekend while still maintaining our vision and values of the church. This is accomplished by:
  • Lead worship as needed.
  • Guide and support the worship staff to arrange and compose fresh, innovative musical arrangements and worship/music sets.
  • Oversee the philosophy, systems and deadlines related to the production of dynamic worship/music sets.
  • Create goals and accountability, with the worship leads, that encourage worship staff to network, recruit and develop musicians and singers (strive to have at least 2 in training in every position.)

7. Video Production

Responsible for developing the people, values, systems and deadlines related to the production of video for worship services and other ministry initiatives. This is accomplished by:
  • Work closely with the Communications Pastor and production team to produce creative and effective promotional and in-service videos including: concept, scripting, video shoots, editing and post-production.
  • Strategize and develop creative videos to tell a story within our weekend services with the Lead Pastor and Communications Pastor.

8. Production

Responsible for overseeing the Production Director who is responsible for the audio, lighting, and video technology for Heights Church, including maintenance, programming and purchasing.
  • Lead production as needed.
  • Encourage and support production staff to create clear and creative environments
  • Oversee the philosophy, systems and deadlines related to production
  • Create goals and accountability, with the Production Director, that encourage staff to network, recruit and develop serve team in each area of production (strive to have at least 2 in training in every position.)

9. Budget

Responsible for overseeing and managing the Creative Arts Budget with each ministry lead/director. Ensures that all guidelines for expenses and purchases are followed by team members.

10. Communications

Responsible for communications between the Communications team and the Creative Arts Team to create consistency in messaging, branding and promotions for weekend services and church wide events. This is accomplished by:
  • Work with the Communications Pastor to ensure alignment1 of church-wide programs and initiatives and strategically coordinate promotions throughout all aspects of weekend services.
  • In coordination with the Weekend Coordinator brainstorm and implement creative ways to communicate desired messages from stage including but not limited to, giving, announcements, messages and celebrations.
  • Lead creative arts team and the processes to set proper expectations for timeline and implementation related to promotions, especially as it relates to in-service and church wide promotions.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Experience in live video, lighting, and sound engineering. Expert in each area is not required.
  • Willingness to step into different roles as needed.
  • Highly relational (caring and personable on an individual level)
  • Effective communication skills with team members
  • Self-starter - able to work independently in a disciplined manner
  • Demonstrated innovative and creative approach to ministry
  • Administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
  • Must be versatile and collaborative team player with the ability to work as a team and independently
  • Proficiency in Planning Center, ProPresenter, Microsoft suite, and Google suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to project a professional Heights image through in-person, video, email, and phone interaction
  • Proven ability to use good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
