Job Description
The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for CATF's 2025 Box Office Interns. CATF, a summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays each season in four venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America's coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV.
A member of the Audience Services Team, Box Office Interns strive to provide radical hospitality to all CATF audience members and help facilitate an exceptional festival experience.
Box Office responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing excellent customer service to audience members
- Assisting audiences both over the phone and in-person with their performance schedule, with their ticket orders and donations, and processing exchanges
- Returning box office voicemails in a prompt and timely manner
- Answering audience questions, which often include information about lodging, hotels, other activities in the area, transportation, and Shepherdstown
- Coordinating and providing accessible services and technology (including closed captioning
- Maintaining and organizing will-call
- Printing performance manifests and reviewing with House Management and staff
- Working with House Management to manage the wait list
- Scanning tickets to ensure an accurate house count
- Reconciling daily ticketing reports
- Assisting with laying out and configuring lobby spaces
- Working the box office window during shows and normal box office hours, which can include: selling and exchanging tickets, distributing ALDs, scanning tickets, ushering, and directing audiences
- Assisting concessions, house managers, group leaders, volunteers, and leadership as needed
Being a member of the Audience Services Team requires a collaborative working mindset, an enthusiasm for working with and assisting the public, interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and feeling comfortable working with technology.

Internships are designed for individuals who are 18 years or older.
Depending on the department, internship positions begin between mid-May and late June and go through the beginning of August. Box Office Intern Contracts start at the beginning of June.
All staff and interns are provided free air-conditioned housing within walking distance of air-conditioned theaters and work spaces, and free use of the university's gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
