Job SummaryThe Social Media manager oversees and executes day-to-day social media responsibilities, including creating and posting content, monitoring, and responding to comments and interactions, and creating and implementing social media campaigns. Develops current and potential social media properties, spearheads new initiatives, and participates in campus-wide social media efforts.
- Manages the content calendar and schedules content according to university priorities.
- Works with Social Media Director and leadership figures in creating campaigns.
- Provides reports on content performance on a regular basis. Shares findings to further optimize the larger social media strategy.
- Engages with audiences on social media platforms (e.g., responding to comments, answering questions, identifies potential issues etc.).
- Identifies conversations, comments or content which may put the university's reputation at risk. Reports such content to responsible parties for any awareness or action.
- Attends university events to provide social media coverage as necessary.
- Identifies opportunities and strategies for new social media profiles and initiatives.
- Assists in enforcing social media policy, procedures, and registration.
- May supervise lower-level staff.
- Creates or edits content with multimedia tools when necessary.
- Coordinates timely development and social media release of media relations owned content.
- Develops content briefs for content or multimedia teams with needs, goals, and delivery deadlines. Follows up to ensure timely delivery and publishing.
- Creates written, visual, and multimedia content targeted toward specific social media platforms and audiences.
- Provides guidance in social media best practices to faculty and staff. Assists in resolving issues with other FIU social media properties as necessary.
- Cultivates relationships with fellow university communicators to facilitate tasks and joint ventures.
- Monitors other university owned social media properties and advises when necessary.
- Stays up to date on the latest social media trends and state-of-the-art technology, such as new algorithms, features, and platforms. Interprets media/communication administrative rules and policies and recommends new and improved programs and/or technologies to effectively manage educational media/communication administration.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field and three (3) years of experience working with social media in a communications, marketing, or public relations setting.
- At least 3 years of social media and marketing experience.
- Ability to submit 3 - 4 URL's of managing campaigns from social media platforms.
- 3 - 5 years experience in managing a marketing channel or product line.
