Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced UX Design Manager to join our Technology team. The successful candidate will have mastered the crafts required to design software products and their peers and counterparts in Product, Engineering and other areas of the business consider them a leader and trusted design advisor. As the UX Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading designers operating across product areas and assume responsibility for design quality of all our products, our processes, and mentoring and coaching UX designers. We are looking for someone that can grasp opportunities for design to make a big impact on customer experience and ultimately our business goals.
Primary Functions:
- Lead designers to establish a holistic vision for how our products should look, feel and interact with each other, as well as an effective strategy and design system for executing on that vision.
- Ensure design quality and provide strong UX and Visual Design direction.
- Able to lead and conduct appropriate research and interpret analysis effectively to generate product designs.
- Provide informed and useful feedback on user problems and product requirements.
- Guide product design for significant initiatives and handle complex projects with overlapping organizational lines.
- Promote understanding and appreciation for design processes and outcomes.
- Ability to develop a deep understanding of Collette’s business and goals. Use that knowledge to give informed and useful feedback to project proposals and ongoing product work.
- Build relationships with managers across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Client Care and other areas of the business.
- Demonstrate excellent judgement on how UX Design team should effectively spend their time.
- Gives thoughtful, direct, and actionable feedback to direct reports.
- Coach designers through complex design problems, product ideation, and collaboration issues. Team consistently learns from you and brings those learnings to other aspects of their work.
- Actively manage the careers and performance of multiple designers, understanding their goals and identifying growth opportunities.
- Set clear, realistic, and action-oriented goals, providing regular feedback, support, and guidance.
- Engage in activities to spread design thinking and enthusiasm within the organization.
- Manage and optimize operational aspects like design systems, selection of design software tools, team meetings, and peer review process.
Knowledge & Skills:
- 7-10 years of experience in UX/Product Design, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Proven track record of leading and mentoring design teams.
- Strong expertise in UX and Visual Design principles
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Storybook etc.
- Experience with user-centered design processes and methodologies, mobile-first responsive design, and Material Design
- Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, actionable design solutions.
- Strong understanding of front-end development and how design translates to code.
- Incredibly strong leadership and coaching abilities, regularly sought out for mentorship.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
- Passion for design and continuous improvement.
