Tesla is seeking a Technical Editor to join the Tesla Energy Team in Palo Alto, CA. You will create technical content for service teams that shape the future of energy storage and renewables. Successful energy products require high uptime and reliability. You will be instrumental in enabling this through accurate and easy-to-follow documentation that allows service technicians to ensure that Tesla's products meet the high standards customers expect.
As the bridge between global technicians and the larger-scale, global service network, you will need to develop a strong understanding of how Tesla's systems and electronic control units work. By using in-house tools, partnering with engineers from service, quality, and design, and working collaboratively with diagnostics, training, technical operations, and other teams, you will accelerate the growth of Megapacks, Superchargers, and Powerwalls.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with engineering teams to create and update diagnostic information and procedures contained in the diagnostics database for use by non-engineers
  • Collaborate with various engineering and quality teams to gather technical information
  • Understand technical problems and communicate them effectively to non-technical people
  • Validate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approval
  • Edit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standards
  • Improve editorial and visual standards for documentation and recommend new designs, layouts, and formatting as needed
  • Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases).


Requirements
  • Degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical / Professional Writing, Journalism, Communications, or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years working experience in related field
  • Ability to edit and create documentation that is accurate, complete, clear, precise, and concise
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to peers, people from various parts of the organization, and non-technical people
  • Can extract and comprehend system operation from engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g., schematics and subsystem specification documents)
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with HTML, XML, DITA, Markdown, Git, SQL, and/or Python is a plus

      $60,000 - $114,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
