GIS Analyst
You will perform a pivotal technical function in the development, maintenance, and quality assurance of critical geospatial datasets in direct support of Client Corporation’s business partners, strategic corporate initiatives, and Engineering requirements. Leveraging Engineering GIS data, the incumbent will respond to ongoing inquiries, create and refine geospatial information, and provide comprehensive GIS services across the Client Corporation. This includes conducting routine inventory analyses that supply key metrics—such as feature counts, mileage, and spatial measurements—across the Client Corporation’s network. A significant portion of the role involves direct engagement in the preparation and assembly of geospatial data supporting the creation of Positive Train Control (PTC) Subdivision Files, as well as the broader deployment of geospatial data aligned with the Client Corporation’s Enterprise GIS objectives. This technical position demands a robust geographic understanding of the Client Corporation rail network, proficiency in interpreting track geometries and field-derived feature placement data, and familiarity with Engineering Department sub-groups’ installation and maintenance activities.
Primary Responsibilities: Independently create, modify, and perform quality assurance on critical geospatial infrastructure datasets utilized across the organization for various high-priority applications, including data preparation for PTC compliance. Apply practical railroad industry knowledge to accurately convert field-collected spatial data from multiple sources into a coherent, standards-compliant digital rail network that supports PTC and adheres to established database schemas and data models. Execute quality control reviews, approve, and integrate geospatial data updates produced by the Geospatial Data Group’s CADD technicians. Utilize advanced GIS software tools to conduct topology corrections, geometric refinements, and other data quality enhancements as part of the data review and acceptance workflow. Collaborate closely with internal teams and departments to maximize the Geospatial Data Group’s technical capabilities in pursuit of Enterprise GIS objectives. Assist the Senior Geospatial Data Analyst with various GIS-related tasks as dictated by operational demands. Capitalize on the organization’s GIS investments to deliver measurable value, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive continuous improvement through geospatial technologies.
