Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, submitting, and managing proposals and reporting timelines. This person serves as the primary grant writer for specifically assigned funders, assists in managing funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. This position requires exceptional and compelling writing, project management skills, data analysis, with an emphasis on outcome measurement. This position temporarily reports to the AVP, Operations Administration.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Generate high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of GMHC, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies.

  • Maintain master calendar of grants, contracts, prospects, deadlines, workplans, and all associated files and correspondence including coordination and follow-up on the progress of submitted proposals.

  • Research and identify new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects to match GMHC priorities.

  • Work with appropriate GMHC personnel to research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals, budgets, and attachments.

  • Serve as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations.

  • Produce and distribute acknowledgements and receipts related to corporate and foundation grants and contributions.

  • Preserve the overall quality of proposals by creating, retaining, and revising proposal templates and proposal support databases, maintain library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board/staff diversity lists, etc.

  • Provide regular status updates on proposals to the AVP, Operations Administration.

  • Communicate with agency staff to stay abreast of GMHC's new and ongoing initiatives, programs and services, and to identify priority funding needs.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • 2-5 years of grant-writing experience required

SPECIAL SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE

Strong candidate for this position can demonstrate the following:

  • Superlative writing, editing and verbal communication and interpersonal proficiency.

  • Proven track record of being awarded federal, NY State, NYC, foundation, corporate funding in the areas of housing, mental health, substance use, food and nutrition, workforce development, community health, and/or HIV/AIDS Testing and prevention.

  • Experience which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing preexisting and new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities.

  • Be highly organized with the ability to manage and meet multiple simultaneous deadlines, problem-solve, recommend and execute process improvements whenever needed.

  • Apply critical thinking effectively under pressure.

  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel), CRM software, donor development and database management skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Description

$95,000 - $115,000
