George Fox University's Marketing Communications team is in search of a Web Designer/Senior Web Designer to express their creativity in an academic community of faith. About the Job:

In this position, the Web Designer/Senior Web Designer will play a key role in setting a course for the design of the George Fox University website. The team is looking for a strong designer who can both match the university's existing visual brand and also continue to build on it. This design ability will be paired with the opportunity to bring visions to life by building whatever the Web Designer/Senior Web Designer can dream up in HTML and CSS. In every way, the individual in this position will have high standards and want to get it right for every user on every device every time. (See notes on design samples below)


The team is looking for a collaborative creative who can take constructive feedback from talented and thoughtful teammates, working together to create an end product that is better than what any individual team member could create on their own.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing, building, and updating pages, templates, and elements for the university's web properties that are visually appealing, easy-to-use, accessible, and on-brand on a variety of devices and browsers. (50%)
  • Choosing images for the website that are impactful, up-to-date and show a breadth of diversity. Recommending photos to be taken for use on the website. (20%)
  • Conceptualizing creative ideas for web design to help set the visual branding for the university online. (20%)
  • Keeping up on web design trends and technology to incorporate into the university's web properties, and taking action to continually move the website forward with project proposals and new ideas. (5%)
  • Giving design feedback to other designers in Marketing Communications on both digital and physical designs. (5%)
  • Conducting necessary duties to the website in the director's absence, such as granting permissions or approving web pages.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position:

This position plays an integral role in extending the university's culture of care and excellence into the digital space through the university website because virtually anyone who has a meaningful interaction with the university will visit the website at some point. By beautifully showcasing the George Fox experience and making it as easy as possible to complete tasks, the website welcomes and informs new users and supports those who are already part of the George Fox community. The web designer makes that experience stand out from the crowd and draw in users. This goes far beyond simply making text updates to web pages - the designer is a proactive part of the marketing team who proposes new ways to improve user experience (UX) and move visitors toward completing marketing conversion actions.

The primary focus of this position is designing and building key pages for the university website using HTML and CSS. This includes choosing photos, creating design elements, and coordinating with the Director of Web Development if deeper programming implementation is needed. Both giving and receiving feedback is very common with the other Web Designer, Director of Web Development, Director of Digital Strategy and student designers.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A bachelor's degree, an associates degree, and/or 3+ years of experience.
  • The ability to design and develop new creative concepts that match existing brand guidelines and styles.
  • Experience designing and building web pages in HTML and CSS for different screen sizes.
  • Experience using photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work as a team member to accomplish goals, including giving and receiving design feedback.
  • The ability to be a self-starter with the ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines and a close attention to detail.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:

  • Experience using prototyping tools preferred, such as Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Experience designing for non-website media, including online advertisements and email campaigns.

    • *Hybrid scheduling available after a training period
