George Fox University's Murdock Library is seeking a highly skilled and motivated team player to fill the role of Research and Instruction Librarian.


About the job:

As a member of the librarian team, the Research and Instruction Librarian partners with teaching faculty to understand their research and information needs, offers research services to students and faculty, and delivers instructional sessions.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as liaison to various departments. Partnering with teaching faculty to understand resource needs.
  • Developing and teaching information literacy sessions in support of program and course objectives.
  • Providing research consultations in person and via phone, email, and Zoom.
  • Creating and maintaining libguides for subjects and specific classes.
  • In support of one's personal development, participating in professional groups and associations is expected. The librarian will contribute new knowledge and desire to learn new information to spur innovation. Each year the librarian will complete a faculty growth plan.
  • Occasional travel between library locations.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • A desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees who represent various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, political views, and expressions of Christian faith.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:

  • Academic library experience.
  • Record of ongoing professional development.
  • Experience providing research consultation and information literacy instruction.

Salary and Rank:

  • Appointment at the Assistant Librarian level is anticipated, though candidates with significant experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Librarian. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
