The Graphic Designer is responsible for developing highly creative and effective print and digital/electronic marketing and communication solutions for the internal and external constituents of the University. The scope of work includes original design conception, implementation and execution of design concepts for the University's magazine, advertising campaigns and marketing collateral pieces that support various areas of the University including the Office of the President. This position works in coordination with others in the Office of University Communications to achieve the departmental and University strategic goals and must be committed to the educational Mission of the University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works closely and collaboratively with leadership and the University Marketing and Communications team to ensure the graphic identity and branding standards of the institution are updated and maintained in all communications.
  • Implements design and production of communications, advertising, web and publication projects in support of the University's programs, events and outreach.
  • Provides graphic design and photography production support related to University publications, websites, events, marketing materials, environmental graphics and other projects.
  • Takes projects from the design concept through production, print and distribution process.
  • Performs photography duties and coordinates/art directs professional photographers as needed.
  • Coordinates and works with freelance graphic designers as needed.
  • Coordinates the brokering and management of print publications with printers, including preparing bid specifications, gathering quotes, performing pre-press production to files, delivery to vendors, and attending press checks as needed.
  • Oversees the intake of design projects, and works with leadership to assess and prioritize projects effectively.
  • Serves as an active participant in project planning meetings, and also interpreting client needs and making recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college/university in graphic design or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in graphic design and layout, specifically in print and digital, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Uses various software applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have a high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities to assist in the preparation of department personnel policy information. Use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments. Decisions are made regarding policy interpretation and individual work priorities
  • Must have the ability the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of graphic design fundamentals, typography, print, editorial, and web.
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours a week and work a flexible schedule to accommodate for University events and projects.
  • Photography and/or videography experience preferred.
  • Experience working with printing vendors and understanding of printing standards preferred.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
