Instructional designers prioritize the quality and operationalization of the student experience by ensuring courses are engaging, accessible, and aligned with learning objectives, incorporating feedback mechanisms, and continuously improving course content based on student performance and feedback.
Responsibilities:
UC Irvines Division of Continuing Education is seeking an instructional designer (ID) who serves as an innovative resource in the design and development of captivating, learner-centric courses. This role involves merging design-thinking principles with course development strategies to guide SMEs in the development of course content and activities suited to program and course focus. They must be able to collaborate and partner with SMEs to conceptualize, plan, design, and develop content that is engaging and utilizes best practices to enhance learner experiences. The ID is knowledgeable in various pedagogical approaches and best practices for online and hybrid course delivery, along with MOOC development. They have competency in educational technology, project management, course quality assurance, research-based learning principles, and pertinent learning technology tools.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500- $80,000.- Required:
Thorough knowledge of functional areas and understanding of how work within one course may impact work being done in other courses or in other areas.
Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong collaboration and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate well with developers/SMEs.
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backward design, learning outcomes, assessment design, and instructional approaches, including lectures, discussions, activities, projects, etc.
Thorough knowledge of applying learning theories and educational methodologies.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while balancing and prioritizing multiple projects and be able to adjust to changing priorities.
Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and tasks in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PPT) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) applications.
Masters degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that aligns with instructional design principles.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in online course design and delivery using instructional design/learning experience design practices in higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge of quality online course frameworks, learning data analytics, analysis, and metrics reporting.
- Preferred:
MBA degree and/or a Masters degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field completed or in progress.
Professional coursework in instructional design, educational technology and/or related field.
Experience with LMS systems (i.e., Canvas, Coursera)
Experience with basic HTML coding.
Experience in using project management tools (i.e., Wrike).
Has worked with third-party vendors and contractors in the course development process.
Demonstrated experience producing courses using eLearning tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
Working knowledge with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design).
