Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT.
THIS EMPLOYMENT LIST MAY ALSO BE USED FOR FUTURE EAST & WEST JEFFERSON LIBRARY DEPARTMENT VACANCIES.
Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to manage all facets of branch operations or provide specialized, technical and/or administrative work in one of the functional areas of the library system. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the effectiveness of programs and operations at the library. Employees in this class perform professional level work in assisting patrons with their informational needs and supervising staff engaged in providing library services. Oversees and ensures adherence to all applicable library policies, procedures and guidelines; interprets and communicates library policies and procedures to staff and patrons. Handles customer complaints and requests with discretion and good judgment. This position resolves circulation problems and complex circulation situations. Makes recommendations for the development and revision of policies and procedures, and to improve library operations. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Possession of a Master's degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association; PLUS, at least two (2) years of paid librarian/library associate work experience in a library.
Substitution: Bilingual written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English may substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.

Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is

An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
