Location: Watson, LA

Schedule: (40 hours weekly)

Monday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Tuesday 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday - Friday: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm -- one Saturday a month in place of Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.


Livingston Parish Library seeks a dedicated and experienced Branch Manager to join its staff. The branch is located in Watson, serving a rural to suburban area. Many of our patrons are kids who come to the library after school and students who use the facility for research. We also have a high volume of fiction and non-fiction lending. Our facility offers a study room and public meeting room. This dynamic individual will have the opportunity to expand and lead services at the branch under supervision of Library Administration. This position offers full-time hours with a generous benefits package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Training of new employees and re-training of existing staff in new policies and procedures
  • Arranging staff schedules to provide optimum coverage and service
  • Encouraging, motivating, coaching, disciplining and evaluating employees
  • Ensuring accuracy and timely submission of payroll and leave records
  • Keeps Library Administration informed of projects and issues at the branch
  • Maintaining knowledge of library policies and procedures
  • Interpreting library policies, resolving staff and patron complaints and problems
  • Following money reporting policy and procedures for branch
  • Performing ongoing collection development
  • Notifying proper persons of maintenance and repair needs of building and grounds
  • Supervising library staff, custodial workers, community service workers, volunteers
  • Assisting in planning and putting on art shows, classes, lectures & seminars
  • May plan and execute programs and events designed for adults and seniors
  • Having daily oversight of all branch library functions, ensuring effective service to patrons and efficient use of library resources

While the branch manager is responsible for administrative duties, he or she is also a working manager. The branch manager should be ready and able to step into any staff position and fill it in the absence of that employee or as additional staff in time of need.


In addition to stated responsibilities, the branch manager is also expected to perform any other tasks that are necessary for the successful operation of the branch.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques and procedures, ability to plan, lead and supervise the work of others, tact and courtesy, ability to work in a team environment, ability to speak effectively in public, good professional judgment.

Master's degree in library science issued by an ALA-accredited library school.

A minimum of two years' experience in a library setting. Management experience preferred.
