About Our Job

The Central Library Services Manager is responsible for overseeing all staffing, operations, services, and programs, at the location, in addition to promotion of the library to the surrounding community. This location serves as our system's flagship and includes specialized services such as the ideaLAB, Special Collections and Archives, Reference, Community Resources, and dedicated Children's and Teen Libraries. It is a very active, urban location that is situated in downtown Denver. Successful candidates will have a strong customer service orientation as well as experience and familiarity with managing services and staff, including other managers, in a public service environment.
  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity
  • Demonstrates commitment to Denver Public Library values of equity, welcoming, connection, curiosity, and stewardship
  • Formulates goals, plans, and procedures for the Central Library
  • Directs and coordinates the public services activities of the Central Library, oversees scheduling to ensure coverage of service points, and accepts responsibility for the overall operating effectiveness of the location
  • Leads library staff in designing services, using a trauma informed, culturally responsive approach, and aligns services with community needs and the library's strategic plan
  • Leads library staff through change, is skilled in setting clear expectations and creating positive, motivating environments.
  • Manages and evaluates the performance of assigned staff members, and holds them accountable for providing exemplary customer service consistent with library policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure high quality customer service and continuity of service across departments and branches
  • Participates in library committee work by leading meetings or contributing as a member;
  • Actively seeks opportunities to promote the Library with the goal of increasing public use of programs and resources, and enhancing the Library's visibility as a vital community partner;
  • Resolves customer problems
  • Participates in the interview or selection process for library staff
  • Interprets and explains library policies, objectives, and services to community groups, business and educational leaders, and the general public
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance
  • Convenes regular meetings with staff to discuss procedures, rules and policies in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the branch


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education requirement: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications: None
