As an LPA in the Early Learning Department your job will be to support existing early learning outreach programming; this includes: the Read Aloud Program, the LENA Start program, and our Early Learning Outreach to Adults suite of programming. This department is outreach based; while your primary location will be the Central Library you will regularly and frequently visit Denver Public Schools, Head Start sites, community partners, and Denver Public Library branches, among other locations. Please note, DPL reserves the right to reassign locations based upon operational and/or staffing needs at any given time.

The Early Learning Department was established in 2010 to ensure that the Denver Public Library was providing high quality, researched based early learning experiences for kids from birth through kindergarten. Our goal is that all of Denver's children show up to kindergarten ready to learn and thrive. We do this through direct programming for children via the Read Aloud Program and our Create to Learn outreach series; through support for parents to enrich their early literacy environment at home via our Outreach to Parents and Caregivers programming; and through support for early educators to enrich the early literacy environment in the classroom via our Early Learning Outreach to Educators programming. Please note that there is a plan in place for the department to serve a broader range of youth in the community in the future. This position will support that work.

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or a related field.
Experience Requirement: None

A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

- Work directly with children from birth through kindergarten and the adults in their lives, including parents, caregivers, and educators.
- Provide storytime in Spanish and English for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in outreach settings across the City.
- Support the Read Aloud Program by providing storytime and recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers.
- Provide research-based, engaging workshops, in both Spanish and English, to parents, caregivers, and educators on the importance of early learning and how to support early learning in the home and school environments.
- Support the LENA Start Program by providing operational support, recruiting participants, and providing LENA Start workshop sessions
- Connect with community partners to support early learning efforts across the City.
- Work closely with the City's diverse populations.
- Connect the department's customers with library resources.

- Ability to connect with and support customers from diverse backgrounds in engaging and strengths-based ways.
- Skill in public speaking and sharing information effectively with groups of adults and children in both English and Spanish.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations.
- Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, volunteers and the community.
- Ability to train, coach, evaluate and provide feedback to storytime providers.
- Ability to work independently and within a team to creatively solve problems in a positive manner.
- Ability to be innovative, flexible and well-organized.
- Knowledge of and/or interest in early child development.
- Ability to use workplace technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.
- Spanish language fluency; an alternate second language (for example: Vietnamese, Arabic) will be considered.
- A bachelor's degree OR equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to drive legally and daily access to a vehicle.
