Job Summary

The Media and Communications Specialist's role is pivotal in shaping Clayton State University's brand's voice, enhancing the University's public relations efforts, and creating compelling content across various platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in media relations, content creation, and strategic communication.

Responsibilities

* Develop and implement communication strategies that support the universitys strategic priorities and/or enrollment goals.

* Write, edit, and oversee the production of various communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media content.

* Work closely with the Assistant Director to manage media relations, including building and maintaining relationships with journalists and influencers.

* Builds and maintains media lists for sending media pitches.

* Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment.

* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.

* Assist in planning and executing events, press conferences, and other promotional activities.

* Assists with media visits to campus.

* Supports university events (some evening and weekend events).

* Stay informed with industry trends and best practices in media and communications.

* Familiar with Customer Relationship Management software: MailChimp, Constant Contact, or comparable tools.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.

* Comparable and relevant work experience is accepted.

* 2-5 years of experience in media relations or communications.

* Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.

* Proficiency in social media platforms and analytics tools.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
