Music Instructor - Full-time/Temporary

Job Duties

1. Teach a full load of music courses including Music Appreciation, Woodwind Ensemble I-IV, Woodwind for Music Ed Majors I-IV, and Choir, in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
2. Strive constantly to improve methods, content, and value of each course you teach, at all times striving to better understand the students you teach and their needs for the present and future.
3. Assume responsibility for teaching, in addition to subject matter, good citizenship, respect for rights of others, respect for school property, and the proper attitude toward college, both in and out of the classroom.
4. Attend all required meetings.
5. Establish, post, and maintain office hours as required by college policy.
6. Meet classes according to class schedule for the designated times.
7. Work with Chairperson and other instructors in the School of Visual & Performing Arts, and College Administration in the continued evaluation and improvement of relevant curricula.
8. Counsel with students as needed and refer students to appropriate counselors as necessary.
9. Work to maintain proper public relations with the community. Participate in special events and have groups perform as requested by college administration.
10. Understand the mission of MGCCC as it pertains to helping students to perform in the classroom at the level of their capabilities.
11. Promote and participate in student activities and organizations/clubs/associations.
12. Ensure instructional methodology and requirements are consistent with the College and respective schools.
13. Follow established policies and procedures to enhance instruction and contribute to the successful accomplishment of college goals, Student Learning Outcomes (SLO), and student achievement.
14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by college administration.

Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION:
Responsible for the teaching of assigned courses at assigned sites as well as the other duties and responsibilities inherent in this position. Reports to the Chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at the Perkinston Campus.

Mandatory Qualifications

(M1) Master's degree in Music or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Music from an accredited institution of higher education. (M2) Audition in Woodwind performance area. (M3) Teaching experience in class/group Woodwind. (M4) Experience accompanying instrumental and vocal performances. (M5) Strong effective written and communication skills. (M6) Proficient in educational technology including but not limited to internet, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and online learning management systems.

Desirable Qualifications

(D1) Doctorate in music. (D2) Secondary area of performance: Piano. (D3) Experience teaching general music courses. (D4) Experience teaching music theory courses. (D5) Knowledge of and experience with multi-media instructional applications.
