Job Summary/Basic Function
The College of Liberal Arts at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for Director of the School of Music (position #131005) at the rank of associate professor or professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
The School of Music seeks a dynamic and creative administrative leader with demonstrated communication, organization, and strategic planning abilities. The Director will be actively engaged in research or artistic practice and deeply committed to quality instruction and broader student success initiatives. Teaching responsibilities, while minimal, will be determined by the candidate's academic background and skills. The Director will give administrative leadership to development, personnel management, NASM accreditation standards and processes, student recruitment, student success, and tangible efforts to promote diversity, broadly defined.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills needed to manage daily operations while focusing on long-range plans to sustain the growth and excellence associated with MTSU's School of Music. The Director will provide leadership for the School, coordinate budgets, facilitate planning and assessment, and advocate for the arts on campus and beyond. The MTSU School of Music serves approximately 250 undergraduate and graduate music majors in Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Music degrees as well as many students involved in specialized minors. Required Education
A terminal degree in music or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
