Job Description

The Music Development Program (MDP) is a Sunday program held on campus at The Tianjin Juilliard School, and is designed for children ages 5-18. The mission of Tianjin Juilliard's MDP is to equip young musicians with a solid foundation and a comprehensive understanding of music. The MDP includes two mandatory components: a Youth Chorus and Music Literacy course. Additionally, students may opt to take Instrumental Instructions on a variety of instruments in piano, violin, viola, or cello.

Responsibilities:

The MDP Chorus Conductor is a part-time position that leads two choruses, the beginner "Elgar" (ages 5-9) and the intermediate "Britten" (ages 7-12). The rehearsals take place on Sundays in Tianjin.

Responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with Public Education team and faculty advisors to select appropriate repertoire for each chorus to support the musical and personal development of the students.
  • Lead weekly rehearsals for each chorus.
  • Conduct 2 concerts for 2 choruses per academic year.
  • Participate in auditions for new students and assist in appropriate placement.
  • Prepare programs for additional outreach events, as requested.


Qualifications
  • Advanced degree and/or considerable professional experience in conducting, preferably with a youth group.
  • Extensive knowledge of choral repertoire.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Rehearsals can be led bilingually in Chinese and English. Proficiency in English a plus.
