Summary
In pursuit of the position's mission, performs skilled work in the maintenance of two-way radios, related equipment, programming and installing mobile units of the Macon-Bibb County Radio Systems with respect to the associated databases and subscriber units. In addition, maintain firmware and software updates along with conducting annual maintenance of subscriber units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Maintain radio systems databases with personnel and Alias (Call Sign) changes, provide support for all public safety subscriber units.
- Conduct annual maintenance of portable subscriber unit batteries, conduct annual maintenance of all subscriber units in MBC, maintain firmware and software support for subscriber units, repair and tune portable and mobile radio units.
- Monitor radio transmission to detect operational violations and technical malfunctions.
- Repair radios in vehicles for EMA, BCSO, MBFD, perform routine maintenance checks.
- Maintain E911 Call Center communications equipment.
- Determines the cause of improper functioning of all electronic communication equipment and related equipment.
- Maintenance of communication of equipment at remote sites as well as MBFD stations (including PA) and weather alert siren stations.
- Vehicle installations of mobile subscriber units.
- Maintain, operate, assist in support of Call Center recording devices.
- Associate degree or four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Electronic Engineering Technology or a related field preferred or
- Two (2) years of experience working in Commercial or Private radio trunking systems (or PCS / Cellular).
- Fundamental experience working with DC power systems and Uninterrupted Power Systems.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that may be acceptable to the appointing authority.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Applicant must not have a State or Federal criminal conviction record.
- Applicant must be fingerprinted and pass a local background check conducted by the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff Department.
- Oversee contractual support personnel in day-to-day Business as Usual (BAU) activities.
- Coordinate and provide direction with other departments where radio service is crucial.
The Radio Technician II is required to travel minimally but may be required to do so on occasion.

- Considerable technical knowledge of maintaining and utilizing Harris and Motorola service software.

- Skill to repair and maintain digital and analog equipment.
- Skill in applying the principles and practices of radio communication as it applies to microprocessor, analog, and digital electronic equipment.
