Job DescriptionJob Overview:
An Investigative Reporter at Telemundo 31 station is responsible for uncovering, researching, and reporting on complex stories that have significant public interest, often requiring in-depth investigation. The role involves producing compelling, fact-based reports that can expose wrongdoing, inform the public, and initiate change. This position requires a strong command of the Spanish language, an understanding of Hispanic local communities, and the ability to convey information in a way that resonates with the station's audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Story Development: Identify, research, and develop investigative story ideas that are relevant to the Hispanic local community. This involves recognizing important issues that may not be widely covered in mainstream media.
- Research and Investigation: Conduct thorough research, including reviewing documents, interviewing sources, and using investigative tools and techniques to gather information. This may also involve undercover work or pursuing leads that require persistence and resourcefulness.
- Reporting and Writing: Will shoot, write & edit investigative news and high impact consumer news stories with emphasis on the local community. Craft clear, concise, and compelling investigative reports in Spanish, ensuring that stories are well-organized, fact-checked, and free of bias. Prepare scripts for on-air presentation, as well as articles for the station's website and social media platforms.
- On-Air Presentation: Present investigative stories on-air, providing clear and engaging delivery. This includes live reporting, studio segments, or field reporting.
- Collaboration: Work closely with news producers and other team members to ensure that stories are accurate, impactful, and adhere to the station's standards and policies.
- Ethical Standards: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all aspects of reporting. This includes ensuring fairness, accuracy, and sensitivity to the subjects of reports, especially when dealing with vulnerable populations or sensitive topics.
- Audience Engagement: Engage with the Hispanic audience through social media, community events, and public appearances to build trust and rapport. Respond to viewer feedback and inquiries related to investigative reports.
- Legal Considerations: Work with legal teams to ensure that all investigative reporting complies with legal requirements, including defamation laws, privacy concerns, and copyright issues.
- Technology and Tools: Utilize advanced technology and investigative tools, including data analysis software, to enhance reporting. Also, utilize technology for shooting and video editing. Stay updated on the latest tools and methods in investigative journalism.
- Education: BA or BS in Journalism or related field or a related field. A master’s degree or specialized training in investigative journalism is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in investigative reporting, preferably with a focus on Hispanic or Spanish-language media.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency is highly desirable.
- Research Skills: Strong research skills with the ability to analyze data, conduct interviews, and verify information from multiple sources.
- Storytelling: Exceptional storytelling abilities, with a keen understanding of how to connect with the Hispanic audience through culturally relevant and engaging content.
- Technical Skills: At least 2 years reporting, shooting, writing, and video-editing experience. Proficiency in using video editing software, content management systems, and other newsroom technology.
- Legal Knowledge: Basic understanding of media law and the legal implications of investigative reporting.

- Must be completely fluent in Spanish English (speak, read & write).
