Job Description

The Technical Director will be responsible for video source switching of live or recorded fast paced news, entertainment, talk and sports programs, daily pre-production sessions, special programs, and remotes as assigned.

Job Duties

  • Acts as the crew chief for all in-house and remote productions
  • Responsible for crew check in at the beginning of each shift and relaying concerns to the Show Director and/or Control Room Operations.
  • Coordinates detailed fax check of production control room, audio, graphics, playback rooms, and studio with the technical crew by checking and ensuring that all video/audio sources, communications, and studio monitor routing are operational and ready for air
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Control Room Ops, maintains the control rooms updated with the latest production elements.
  • Works under the direct supervision of Manager, Control Room Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager or Supervisor as needed
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Director in a live television environment utilizing various production switchers (i.e. Sony, Ross & Grass Valley), clip players, and routers
  • Must possess basic computer skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems (i.e. Microsoft Office) and NRCS systems (i.e. Avid iNEWS, Dalet, ENPS, etc.)
  • Proven ability to direct pre-recorded and live segments as needed
  • Fluency English (both written & verbal

Desired Qualifications

  • Fluency in English & Spanish is preferred
  • Familiarity with control room automation systems including Sony ELC, Ross Video Overdrive and Grass Valley Ignite a plus
  • Tri-Caster or APC experience a plus
  • Prior remote truck production experience a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Television Production, or related field preferred
  • Exhibits strong knowledge and understanding of broadcast and production technology
  • Exceptional communication, time management, analytical and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to effectively summarize status and communicate with Senior Leadership
  • Self-starter who exhibits ownership on assigned tasks and who will push for solutions that solve immediate problems while building towards long-term goals
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, dead-line driven environment
  • Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and manage expectations
  • Ability to effectively be flexible in approach, and respond well to pressure
  • Ability to lead and direct others, promote positive work environment and problem solves
  • Process oriented, good at identifying and implementing best practices
  • Change agent; creative and adaptable when facing challenges
  • Proven record of dependability and reliability
