Job Description
Exostellar, Inc.. is searching for a talented and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team. As a Technical Writer, you will play a vital role in creating clear, accurate, and comprehensive documentation for our innovative products and technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, with experience in Kubernetes, Containers, and Linux. Startup experience and familiarity with HPC, EDA, or blockchain applications are highly desirable. This is a technical role that requires collaboration with engineering teams, the ability to install and test products, and the production of customer-facing documentation.
Exotanium, a startup created by two professors and one graduated Ph.D. student from the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University, is a cloud resource optimization and management platform that helps enterprises reduce spending in the cloud by up to 90%, while enhancing both operational security and performance. Our company has offices in Ithaca, NY, and Santa Clara, CA, and we also offer remote positions across the United States and Canada.

Key responsibilities:
Documentation Creation
- Create high-quality technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, API references, and release notes.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, and other cross-functional teams to gather technical information and specifications.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation that meets the needs of our customers and end-users.
Product Testing and Evaluation:
- Install, configure, and test our products and technologies in various environments to gain a deep understanding of their functionality and usage.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and reproduce software issues, ensuring accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps and workarounds.
- Provide valuable feedback on product usability, reliability, and overall user experience to help drive product improvement and refinement.
Customer-Facing Documentation:
- Develop and maintain customer-facing documentation, including user guides, tutorials, and knowledge base articles.
- Ensure that documentation is accessible, well-organized, and up-to-date, reflecting the latest product features, changes, and best practices.
- Continuously gather customer feedback and collaborate with support teams to identify areas of improvement and update documentation accordingly.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand technical concepts, architecture, and implementation details, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment between product features and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external customers to gather information, address inquiries, and gather feedback to enhance documentation quality.
Knowledge Sharing and Process Improvement:
- Contribute to the development and improvement of documentation processes, standards, and templates.
- Share knowledge and best practices with fellow team members to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the technical writing team.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and customer needs to continually enhance the quality and relevance of our documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related discipline). Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a technical writer, creating documentation for complex software products or technologies.
- Strong technical background with expertise in Kubernetes, Containers, and Linux.
- Startup experience is highly desirable, with a track record of working in fast-paced environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with HPC, EDA, or blockchain applications is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in documentation tools and technologies (e.g., Markdown, Git, Jira, Confluence).
- Basic understanding of software development processes and methodologies.
