Job Summary:
The Graduate Assistant Video Producer I will work with the IMATS Media Specialist and Senior Associate Director of Instructional Media Services in assisting with the operations and services of the department. They will record and edit video for Barnard College Academic events, workshops, and panels as part of IMATS Videography Services. They will assist with the maintenance and staffing of the Media Center Production Studio, staff help hours in the Media Center's Post-Production Lab, and may assist with the execution of Media Center programming, including the teaching of workshops and assisting faculty in the execution of their courses. Graduate Assistant Video Producers may be assigned as a TA to a Film Production course.

About IMATS Media Services & Sloate Media Center:
Below are some of the programs and services the Media team provides. Please note that we function as a team, and all team members including our cohort of part-time Graduate Assistants collaborate to provide these services - sometimes by working on projects independently, and sometimes by supporting others.
* Maintain and operate spaces for media production on campus
* Our equipment room lends out audio, photo, video equipment and employs a team of undergraduate student workers.
* Our bookable Media production studio is outfitted with backdrops, lighting, a single occupancy audio booth, and other production equipment.
* Our open use Post production computer lab has Mac computers with Adobe creative suite, as well as a dedicated color grading station with Davinci Resolve studio.
* Collaborate with faculty to support courses with technical workshops on podcasting, video production techniques, media editing, and related topics.
* Ideate, develop, and execute student-facing programming
* Hands-on workshops where we teach media skills (our fall lineup includes DSLR Portrait Photography, Creative Lighting for the Camera, and Audio Production on Set)
* Film screenings
* Talks and panels with media professionals
* Document academic events on campus through videography & photography services
* Run the Emerging Filmmaker Mentorship Program, which includes -
* hands-on workshops for pre-production, production, and post-production
* reviewing applications and selecting mentees
* coordinating and distributing grant funds
* supporting mentees during filmmaking
* showcasing mentees' finished work
* Support the student production group The 1 Train Is Delayed
* Collaborate with other centers and departments on initiatives and programming to further media creation/learning on campus
* Individual consultations with students, staff, and faculty for their academic or extracurricular media projects
* Provide one-on-one or group training for students on media production techniques and post production softwares.
* Produce videos for special academic projects with a variety of campus partners
Essential Duties:
Summary Duties include recording, editing, and exporting digital material of events and classes, performing studio patron check-ins and outs, providing help in the post-production computer lab as needed, assisting in maintaining studio space, and misc. clerical duties as assigned.
For those assigned a TA role, essential duties will be dictated by the specific course, which will encompass only some or all of the following:
Consulting with faculty on structure of assignments, teaching technical workshops on production and post-production techniques, reviewing student work and providing feedback, hosting office hours for student support, and other miscellaneous instructional support tasks as needed.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualification Summary:
* Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, film production, related field and/or commensurate experience
* Currently enrolled in Graduate Degree program
* Experience with video production & post-production
* Knowledge of Adobe Suite and other media softwares
* Experience with teaching and instruction
* Highly organized with a strong record of working independently, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail
* Tact, diplomacy, and a supportive attitude towards colleagues, students, faculty, and senior administration
* Experience working as a member of a successful team, be it creative or otherwise
* Familiarity with the following: Professional Camcorders, SLR & DSLR cameras, Digital Cinema Cameras, wired and wireless microphones, lighting, backdrops, and related equipment
* Demonstrated excitement for learning new equipment, processes, techniques, and softwares as they relate to media production
Preferred Qualification Summary:
* Experience with video production in educational, research, or non-profit settings
* Experience with recording events, lectures, and panels
* Experience with maintaining production equipment
* Demonstrated studio and field production experience
Pay Rate: $32.50/hour @ approximately 20 hours per week
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
