A Day in the Life:
The primary purpose of the Grants Writer position is to secure funding for programs of Home of the Innocents by identifying prospects, writing grant proposals, tracking and reporting to funders, gathering documentation and working with program staff. The Grants Writer will engage and inspire funders by telling the story of the agency and its clients to meet funding needs.

A Day in the Life:
The primary purpose of the Grants Writer position is to secure funding for programs of Home of the Innocents by identifying prospects, writing grant proposals, tracking and reporting to funders, gathering documentation and working with program staff. The Grants Writer will engage and inspire funders by telling the story of the agency and its clients to meet funding needs.
Responsibilities Include:
- Articulate Home of the Innocents' mission, programs and future opportunities in writing and verbally for current and prospective funders (weekly).
- Write and submit proposals, letters of intent and reports as needed for successful grant submissions and grant management (weekly).
- Work with program staff to develop outcomes, logic models and budgets for funding opportunities (annually).
- Identify potential new funders and assist in matching them to funding needs (monthly).
- Review grants and other written materials for edits, clarity and strategy (weekly).
- Collaborate within the Development Department to plan, implement, and evaluate ongoing activities and special projects (as needed).
- Attend in-person meetings, trainings and events such as New Employee Orientation, Sanctuary Training, Heroes for the Home, Donor Holiday Reception and team engagement meetings with a minimum of 10 visits to campus per year.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have a minimum of a four-year degree from accredited college or university.
- Must have a minimum of 1 - 3 years' experience in grant writing.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines concerning grant administration.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess a high degree of organization, time management skills, and attention to detail.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess proficiency of basic computer applications.
- Must have ability to act as liaison between the agency and the community.
- Must possess ability to deal tactfully with funders, potential funders, visitors and the general public.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing development practices.
- Must possess ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
