Summary
This is a mid-level position performing Technical Writer I job duties. Positions at this level use professional concepts and apply basic skills to perform the work. Work consists of developing and publishing end-user technical information of varied complexity for print, Web and multimedia environments or assisting other staff with other assignments as assigned. Assignments are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision-making to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity. Tasks are clearly defined and related. Guidelines covering assignments are provided and work is performed in adherence to these guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in documentation planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and deliverables.
Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.
Works closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and developers. May use interviewing techniques to develop content for written materials.
Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to established company standards.
Writes operating instructions, owner's manuals, parts manuals, specifications, and safety warning placards.
Creates 2D exploded view parts illustrations (PTC Creo Illustrate) from 3D CAD models.
Create images (Adobe Photoshop/In-Design) for inclusion into technical materials.
Create cover artwork and procedural step images for technical manuals (photography skills helpful)
Authors technical materials (PTC Arbortext), publications, and other documents for targeted audiences.
Authors and edits XML style sheets.
Edits written material and assists in layout process by suggesting charts, illustrations, photographs, drawings, sketches, and diagrams that best illustrate the material.
Reviews, edits, or re-writes material prepared by other writers.
Publishing created content (Adobe In-Design/PTC Arbortext Publishing Engine) such as Parts Manuals, Owner's Manuals, Warning Decals & Placards.
Maintains content development research records, reports, and files.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum
Required
Qualifications
Technical Degree with emphasis in Graphics Design.
Minimum of 5 years of work experience in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
Demonstrated exceptional writing abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
Knowledge of graphic and design techniques.
Experience creating and manipulating parts diagrams and parts lists.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams of creative and technical experts.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines across multiple research projects.
Mechanically inclined with a strong technical aptitude-ability to quickly learn new concepts and tools.
Desire and ability to innovate and improve upon current processes.
Well organized, detail oriented, results driven.

Experience in Technical Publication authoring and editing.
Experience in Engineering using CAD Modeling software.
Proficiency in PTC Software Suite (Windchill, Creo Illustrate, Arbortext Styler, Arbortext Editor, Arbortext Publisher).
Proficiency using Adobe Software Suite (Photoshop, In-Design).
Experience editing XML-based style sheets.
Skills Prerequisite:
Knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheets, and general office communication equipment.
