System Frameworks Engineer - Graphics, Games, and ML
Apple’s Graphics, Games, and Machine Learning organization is looking for a highly motivated engineer to help drive the evolution of our GPU driver model for Metal, the low-overhead API for accessing the powerful 3D graphics and compute capabilities of the GPUs found in Apple products such as iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, Apple Vision Pro, and Mac. Combined with its rich shading language, tight integration of graphics and compute, and unparalleled suite of GPU profiling and debugging tools, Metal accelerates everything from games, 3D content creation, ray tracing, video production, image processing, AR/VR, and machine learning.
Description
The System Frameworks engineer is responsible for delivering GPU and display driver models, test development, and feature performance analysis across both pre-silicon and production timelines, as well as ongoing support for existing products. Work closely with Apple silicon hardware, operating system, and driver teams to design how new GPU and display features will be performantly supported by the system. Work closely with compiler, compute, and higher-level framework teams across Apple to organize and prioritize new driver features, as well as support new and existing acceleration needs. You will also work closely with ecosystems teams and app developers to bring the best games, AR/VR, machine learning, and professional apps to Apple’s platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive experience with GPU and display system interfaces, both at the hardware and software levels.
- Well versed in OS fundamentals such as memory management, scheduling, synchronization, syscalls, IPC, etc.
- Detailed knowledge of GPU hardware architecture, its capabilities, and performance characteristics.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence up, down, and cross-functionally.
- Excellent software design, problem-solving, debugging, and performance analysis abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Broad experience with complex driver models such as IOKit, WDM, and WDDM.
- Knowledge of current and emerging rendering, ML, and compute optimization techniques is an asset.
- Exposure to Metal, C/C++, Objective-C/C++, and Swift will be ideal.
