Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly qualified Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent to join their dynamic intellectual property team in Los Angeles, CA. The ideal candidate will possess strong academic credentials, technical expertise, and a proven track record in patent preparation and prosecution. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, inventors, and attorneys, leveraging their knowledge of advanced technologies such as software, artificial intelligence, IoT, and quantum technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Conduct technical patent research and analyze inventions to assess patentability and freedom to operate
- Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and in-house counsel to develop patent strategies and ensure strong IP protection
- Review and draft patent-related documents, including patent applications, responses to office actions, and legal opinions
- Conduct patent infringement analysis and provide risk assessments for potential litigation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving technologies and trends in the patent landscape
- Provide strategic counsel on IP-related matters, including portfolio management, due diligence, and licensing opportunities
- Assist in litigation support, including patent invalidity and non-infringement analysis, when necessary
- Ensure compliance with USPTO regulations and deadlines
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience in a law firm or industry setting
- Experience with technologies related to software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies
- Strong technical understanding and ability to interface with technical experts in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science fields
- Proven experience drafting high-quality patent applications and responses to USPTO office actions
- Exceptional writing, communication, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in work
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (required)
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school (required)
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) (required)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with patent prosecution in fields such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and quantum technologies
