A law firm is seeking a Junior To Mid-Level Product Design And User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their team in Boston, MA. This individual will be responsible for navigating complex intellectual property matters, specifically focusing on emerging technologies such as software, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.

Job Description:

  • Draft, review, and prosecute patent applications, primarily focusing on product design and user interface technologies.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses for clients in various technology sectors.
  • Provide legal counsel on patent portfolio management and intellectual property strategy to clients in cutting-edge industries.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product designers, and developers to ensure accurate translation of technical concepts into patent applications.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and coordinate international patent filings.
  • Conduct due diligence reviews for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements related to intellectual property assets.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law, particularly related to artificial intelligence, IOT, networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Participate in client meetings, providing high-level advice on intellectual property strategies and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist in litigating patent infringement cases as necessary, working closely with litigation teams.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and effective communication with clients, engineers, and legal teams.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in technologies related to software, artificial intelligence, IOT, networking, or quantum technologies.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. patent law, especially about emerging technology sectors.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional client service orientation, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field is required.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Active admission to the Massachusetts State Bar or ability to obtain admission within a reasonable time frame.
