Description of Work Unit

The University's commitment to Inclusive Excellence is a longstanding one that reflects our role and mission as a land grant institution and recognizes the work that is needed to precipitate change. Founded in 2010, the Office for Inclusive Excellence (OIE) leads diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at Colorado State University. Our goal is to further develop an environment where all members of the University community are welcomed, valued, and affirmed. We achieve this by focusing on the following areas:
  • Actively support efforts to increase recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty and staff from historically marginalized and underrepresented populations;
  • actively support efforts to increase retention and recruitment of students of color from historically marginalized and excluded populations;
  • build an environment in partnership with other Divisions and Colleges at CSU where students are more culturally competent and have skills to enter into a diverse global workplace;
  • improve the university climate of inclusion;

Position Summary

This is a part-time role with the Office for Inclusive Excellence. This position will be responsible for creating content for the annual report, website, and helping develop content and communications for the VP for Inclusive Excellence. Additionally, this position will train staff on strategic communications.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field with a minimum of seven years' experience OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an unrelated field with a minimum of ten years' direct experience working in a collaborative creative team.
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills in areas such as feature articles, news releases, web content and creation.
  • A strong command of grammar and the English language and effective communication methods for a variety of audiences and media, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of software applications relevant for this position, such as database management, customer relationship management (CRM), web CMS, Microsoft Office, Canva, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Professional experience in communications in higher education or with mission-driven organizations such as foundations or non-profits, especially those working with diverse cultures or communities.
  • Demonstrated experience with website management, including content creation, design and the use of analytics to measure effectiveness of web strategies.
  • Knowledge of CSU Marketing and Branding Strategies is essential.
  • Availability for occasional onsite meetings in Fort Collins is required.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; OIE will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Strong commitment to the principles of diversity, inclusion and equal access.
  • Demonstrated strengths in writing and editing across many formats and platforms, and translating complex information into effective communications for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience designing promotional materials, both print and web-based, in marketing communications.
  • Demonstrated strengths in project management, multitasking, problem-solving and attention to detail.

  • Develop and implement strategic communications, content and initiatives in support of the university's reputation and inclusive excellence objectives.
  • Enhance and execute the overall mission of the OIE including goals to increase awareness and appreciation by all internal and external CSU stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and counsel to VPIE on communications strategies.
  • Enhance and maintain the effectiveness of OIE's ability to communicate with its various constituencies, through multiple channels, including various CSU publications, e-communications, and web strategy.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve both effectiveness and efficiency in inclusive excellence communications, including through analytics and continuous improvement, new and innovative concepts, and increased coordination and collaboration with campus partner units.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure effective and inclusive strategic communication for major university initiatives and events.
