Position Summary
CSU Spur Music Lab (DENVER)
Local Teaching Artist Application
Spring 2025 Semester
Our mission with CSU Music Lab at Spur is to create a community based music outreach program while preparing pre-service music educators with the skills, knowledge and artistic disposition to create a meaningful program in a variety of teaching scenarios they might find themselves in throughout their career.
CSU Spur Music Lab is held every 2nd Saturday during the months of January 2025 through May 2025 at the CSU Extension campus located at 4817 National Western Dr., Denver, CO 80216. There will be mandatory training sessions scheduled throughout the season to learn the process, context, and curriculum of foundational music education in trauma-informed teaching environments. This secondary general music education approach focuses on bridging the gap between Elemental Music Pedagogies, Culturally Sustaining Teaching Practices, and secondary small and large ensemble rehearsals practices for mixed instrumentation of guitars, ukuleles, pianos, percussion, and audio production technology for multigenerational learners.
As a Teaching Artist you will join a small teaching staff of CSU music education students, CSU music education faculty, local music education programs and teaching artists, and guest performing artists from the Denver Metro area. All applicants chosen to teach in the program will create lesson plans and facilitate music lessons adaptable for mixed instrumentation and multigenerational learners in a workshop and open lab format that is translated into Spanish.
We have the honor of partnering with the Colorado Youth Mariachi Program this year! Alongside our partnership with CYMP, we have a specific focus on developing content and strategies to provide bi-lingual music education to our community. Throughout our season, we will be building a Spur Songbook, a combination of short, accessible songs connected to the various cultures in our community, CSU partner programs, Spur Campus STEAM themes, our guest performing artists, and the Colorado Youth Mariachi Program. This songbook will be bilingual in English and Spanish.
