GENERAL PURPOSE

The Senior Product Designer serves as an internal industrial designer within the MillerKnoll Global Design Studio. Achieve excellent design results on new product design initiatives, customization projects, and ongoing product extensions. Support the authoring, distribution, and execution of design briefs issued to external design partners, and act as a mentor to junior members of the internal design team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Apply excellent in-depth problem-solving skills with a user-centric approach.

  • Develop product concepts and designs under the authorship of Herman Miller, Knoll, and other MillerKnoll brands, as needed.

  • Design product extensions, improvements, and modifications for existing product lines.

  • Proactively drive exploration of new materials, processes, and market shifts to inform product design and development.

  • Effectively speak to, and represent, design at MillerKnoll to customers, stakeholders, and design partners in both formal and informal interactions.

  • Synthesize user needs, business factors, corporate strategy, and research insights into well-formed design results.

  • Work with engineering and operational resources on process alternatives to arrive at intended design results within structural, time, and cost constraints.

  • Serve as liaison between design, and members of finance, legal, archive, engineering, and marketing teams.

  • Support the design studio in growing the pool of external design talent by scouting new designers and maintaining relationships with existing partners.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers to draft design briefs and engage with design partners best aligned to meet the design challenges of a given project.

  • Help facilitate the execution of design contracts, aiding in contract terms and royalty negotiations.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Vice President of Product Design to achieve business and brand objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in design or design-related field preferred.

  • 10 years of design experience, with emphasis on product design.

  • Impeccable design sensitivity and historical design knowledge.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with design team colleagues and external designers.

  • Deep knowledge of global furniture design practitioners and brands, both established and new.

  • Strong relationship and consensus-building skills necessary to manage projects in a complex matrixed environment.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, and a proven capability to present complex concepts in a concise and understandable way to a variety of audiences.

A starting compensation range for this role is $88,600.00 - $111,750.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
