Description:

Under direct supervision this position is responsible for the orientation, training, and supervision of technicians at the UIC Pavilion and for the proper functioning of the audio-visual equipment owned and/or operated by the department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates: Digital and analog audio mixers, Microphones, Wireless systems, Speakers, Portable P.A. systems, Backline - (drums, amplifiers, instruments), Scoreboard and scoring equipment, Electronic displays, such as display ribbon board, Playback gear - CD players, Instant Replay system, Video recorders, Projectors, Clear Com, and All other related Credit Union 1 Arena audio visual equipment for arena events.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on all types of video and audio/visual equipment.
  • Consults with clients, determines equipment needs for specific CU1A events.
  • Edits and uploads client provided graphics, animations, and messages for indoor and outdoor ribbons and marquees.
  • Operates the in-house video equipment, including video switcher, cameras, and Barco Jr. video processor.
  • Riggs audio speakers to be flown for graduations and other events that use a stage. Brings line array speakers up and down depending on the show's need.
  • Sets up audio feeds for televised events.
  • Sets up communication devices such as Clear Com, telephones, and internet connections.
  • Programs and operates basic lighting, such as house lights and LED accent lights.
  • Maintains and records a physical inventory sheet of all CU1A audio/visual and communications equipment.
  • Mixes audio necessary for live productions and for video recording.
  • Performs some duties up in the catwalks, such as dropping and pulling cables.
  • Responsible for audio quality for all CU1A events where an audio technician is needed, serving as lead sound technician for events held at the CU1A.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:

    1. Any one or combination of the following, totaling one (1) year (12 months), from the categories below:

    A. course work in communications, broadcasting, graphic design, journalism, video production or closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)

    B. experience in instructional communications, instructional technology, industrial communications, video production or closely related fields
