Job Purpose Statement: The job of Library/Media Clerk is done for the purposes of assisting and Library/Media Specialist maintain the library collection at school site; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selection of appropriate items in support of classroom instruction and educating students on the proper use of the library resources
Essential Job Functions:
Assists Library Specialist and other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Assists teachers, students, and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
Coordinates media requests of individuals sites for the purpose of ensuring availability of audio visual equipment for instructional use.
Directs student workers, Job Training Placement Act (JTPA) workers, etc. for the purpose of ensuring assignments are completed appropriately.
Distributes various books and media for the purpose of providing requested classroom reference materials.
Instructs students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library resources (i.e. classification system, card catalog, care of materials, etc.)
Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of motivating students to use the library resources.
Repairs books for the purpose of ensuring their availability.
Researches availability of materials and media for the purpose of selecting appropriate items.
Other Job Functions:
Conducts classes in a variety of formats (e.g. story telling, puppet plays, etc.) for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature. (Elementary)
Participates in meetings for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge to perform basic math; to read a variety of manuals; type correspondence, memos, etc., usually in prescribed formats, reports, and/or speak before groups; and to apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions in a combination of written and oral forms.
Skills to perform multiple basic non-technical tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records; and utilize pertinent software applications. Keyboard/computer literate.
Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant flexibility with coordinating of others person's schedules and/or activities; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to working with people; and interacting with persons and/or agendas that frequently change. Type 30 wpm. Lift a minimum of 50 lbs. .
Responsibility. The resources required (people, equipment, facilities, and/or funding) necessary to perform job functions are of a minimal scope and minimal opportunity exists for significant impact (positive or negative) on the organization's mission.
Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling; sensory speaking, hearing and visual.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Some job related experience is desired.
Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance. Will meet any and/or all Federal/State/District requirements
