TITLE: TECHNICAL WRITER (TEMPORARY)

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR, EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AND ENGINEERING

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Equipment Engineering, the Technical Writer is responsible for creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for complex subjects, including maintaining and updating MPIs, QSPs, user manuals, etc. This position must be capable of editing and proofreading documents, partnering with team members to understand processes and programs, and translating those into written documentation. This position is located in Milpitas, California.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews and analyzes current documentation; edits, updates, and proofreads before releasing
  • Writes in clear and concise and easy to read manner; easily conveys technical information
  • Works closely with engineers, developers, and other team members to ensure the documentation meets user requirements
  • Maintains and updates MPIs, QSPs, and user manuals on an established timeframe; may update CCNs
  • Uploads completed documents to the internal file system, tracks approvals, and releases to users when complete
  • Uses various software such as Word, Power Point, or other tools to create documentation
  • Responds to requests for information or reports from departments or employees
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Engineering, or English and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Two years of experience working as a Technical Writer in a manufacturing or hi-tech setting
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of technical writing process, including editing, proofreading, and updating of technical documents
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
  • Able to understand general engineering principles and articulate into documents
  • Able to communicate effectively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management both verbally and in writing
  • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Flexible and able to prioritize

The annual base salary for this temporary position is between $80,808.00-$118,834.00. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The annual base pay range shown is subject to change and may be modified periodically.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Technical Writer works primarily in an office environment from Monday to Friday. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. Stands, sits, and walks; performs various fine grasping movements, bends, and twists; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment.
