Orbital is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer with experience in the design of mechanical systems and equipment for large industrial facilities. The position requires experience in heavy industrial engineering projects. This position will support our Midwest Region and can be done fully remote for the right candidate. This position may require occasional travel to client sites in the Midwest Region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare design documents using Inventor and AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Experience with utilizing Point Cloud data to create models of the existing environment.
- Ability to create P&IDs via virtual walkdown from Point Cloud Data
- Conduct local and regional day trips to client sites to gather field data for project designs
- Prepare piping construction drawings for various maintenance and capital projects based on sketches or concepts generated by senior designers or project engineers
- Interface with project engineering
- Ability to work in the field and occasionally at elevated working conditions
- Ability to assist in gathering field information. Laser scanning experience is a plus
- Ability to communicate and work on multiple multi-discipline projects with other designers and engineers to support our client's projects and schedules
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with other disciplines to ensure overall design accuracy
- Must excel in working in a team environment
- High attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of various material properties, 10 state standards, and coordinate systems
- Ability to process design standards and specifications
- Associates degree with an emphasis in industrial drafting/design.
- 10+ years of process piping experience
- Experience using Inventor software for mechanical design of various piping systems and equipment
- Recent experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Ability to travel locally and regionally to client sites
- Specialized courses or certification in drafting, design and engineering practices are a plus
