Suffolk Design, a fully integrated architectural and engineering services vertical within Suffolk Construction, aims to leverage Suffolk’s core construction capabilities along with innovative technologies to create a disruptive digital design and engineering platform capable of delivering construction-ready design with unprecedented levels of speed, accuracy, and technical competence. To that end, Suffolk Design is seeking an Assistant Design Manager to join its growing practice.
The Role:
Suffolk Design is seeking an intellectually curious Assistant Design Manager, who is energized by the opportunity to transform the Design-Construction industry. As an Assistant Design Manager, you will be responsible for specific technical design activities and will play a crucial role in creating and analyzing detailed drawings, 3D models, and renderings to deliver fully coordinated and buildable design documents. Your role will also involve implementing Suffolk Design's design-build management process across multiple concurrent projects of various types and market sectors. With a focus on cross-disciplinary collaboration, technical competence, and implementation of innovative processes, tools, and technologies, you will contribute to shaping the future of design and construction.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for specific technical design tasks by creating detailed drawings, 3D models, and renderings to deliver fully coordinated and buildable design documentation.
- Apply independent judgment in assessing, selecting, and employing standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for architectural projects.
- Advance the production of schematic, design development and construction documents drawings and specifications in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost, and design intent.
- Assist in the preparation of project specifications by gathering, researching and analyzing pertinent data to support competent solutions.
- Assist in conducting rigorous project constructability reviews during the design process, ensuring complete and coordinated documentation prior to construction.
- Track and report progress towards internal deadlines and project milestone completion.
- Coordinate, prepare for, and participate in project team meetings, workshops, and collaborative communications. Document meetings and distribution action items and notes accordingly.
- Actively collaborate with and coordinate work of external design consultants, internal construction and estimating experts, and other knowledge resources to ensure project deliverables are coordinated, integrated, and support the design and performance goals of the project.
- Participate in construction administration duties (e.g., submittal review, RFI’s, ASI’s, change orders, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or related field from an accredited academic institution
- 3-5 years’ experience. Architecture licensure-track preferred but not required.
- LEED accreditation is a plus.
- Excellent visualization, presentation, and production skills are essential, specifically including Revit-based documentation proficiency. Other industry-accepted software competencies are strongly encouraged, including Adobe CC, AutoCAD, Rhino, Enscape, Revizto, Computation Design Tools (Dynamo, Grasshopper).
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Familiarity with building and zoning codes, entitlement procedure, environmental regulations, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in architectural evaluations and problem-solving.
- Strong desire to learn, grow, and exchange ideas in collaborative environment, focused on transforming design and construction delivery.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands.
