GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Teen Librarian will be responsible providing library services specifically for tweens, teens, and young adults; including but not limited to reference, reader's advisory, and programming. The Teen Librarian will work in the fast-paced environment of the newly transformed Main Library and must be flexible and willing to grow and change programming to meet the needs of the growing downtown Durham and Durham community.
The Teen Librarian must be able to work a flexible schedule including one evening a week and a regular weekend rotation. This person in this position will be based at the Main Library but could be asked to work at other Durham County Library locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a robust schedule of diverse and engaging teen programs.
- Work under the direction of the Teen Services Manager, and in collaboration with Teen Services unit, and staff throughout the library system.
- Collaborate with community partners to provide high-quality programs and services in the community and in the library.
- Develop interactive community relationships with a variety of organizations, promoting use of the library's resources by organizations who serve teens.
- Work with schools and community agencies to provide instruction in topics such as information gathering, research, digital literacy, reader's advisory, and college and career readiness skills.
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the Main Library Manager.
- Serve on system-wide teams and committees as assigned and with assist with special projects that support the library's strategic plan.
- Perform related tasks as required or requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of library resources, procedures, and systems.
- Analytical skills and knowledge for evaluating the community and its information needs.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for a diverse community.
- Ability to plan innovative programs that adapt to meet the needs and skill level of customers.
- Ability to use good judgement in daily services to analyze problems, recommend solutions and make decisions.
- High degree of comfort learning new technologies.
- Ability to relate library services to the needs of the community.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a master's program in library science from an ALA-accredited library school.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Public library experience
- Considerable experience working with underserved populations
