BASIC FUNCTION:
The Library Circulation Specialist, under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Operations, will be responsible, and act as a team lead, for the Circulation and Access Services operation of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library (LSHSL). This includes providing public, technical, and clerical services to support the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library (LSHSL) activities, including interlibrary loan and document delivery services.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
Supervises the work of LSHSL part-time evening/weekend employees and Federal Work-Study student workers.

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of library work experience. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, High-school diploma or GED, the equivalent of two (2) years of college education and five (5) years of library work experience.
Experience with the Ex Libris Alma/Primo Library Management System. (Preferred)

Expected Pay Range: $40,000 - $45,000

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Act as Circulation and Access Services Team Lead and supervise LSHSL part-time, evening/weekend employees and Federal Work-Study (FWS) student workers.
- Responsible for supervision, orienting, and training of part-time and Federal Work-Study (FWS) library employees, as well as concurrent paperwork and assisting with the interviewing of prospective Access Services staff. Communicate regularly with staff; maintain sound personnel management policies.
- Functions as library lead person in absence of senior staff.
- Provide information services that promote student success and support faculty research, including general and specialized reference services, consultation services, and the accessibility of learning resources.
- Assist library users in obtaining materials not available in the library collection by verifying citations, identifying locations, and ordering from the appropriate entity.
- Assist other libraries in obtaining materials available in the library collection for their interlibrary service requests.
- Staff circulation desk and assist patrons with checking out study rooms and library materials.
- Retrieve and return books from shelves.
- In cooperation with the Assistant Director, schedule part-time and Federal Work-Study (FWS) library employees. This includes time at the desk, processing inter-library loans (ILL), and special assignments.
- Photocopies materials and maintains statistics, reports, and records, including data collection, input, review, and modifications.
- Receives routine department and work unit problems.
- Provides input to improve department procedures and operations.
- Lift, move, and assemble library materials, furnishings and equipment.
- Assist with library events, as needed.
- Assists management with special projects, as requested.
- Participate actively in paraprofessional activities and personal and professional development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Sound working knowledge of automated library management system used for search, discovery, access, and delivery services; personal computers with accompanying word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and group dynamic skills and communicating in oral and written English.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with library staff, university officials, faculty, students, and professional colleagues at other institutions and organizations; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse patronage.
- Solid information searching skills and research methods and assisting library patrons with the same.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and principles of library assistance, public relations, and customer service.
- Ability to set up and use library equipment, including multi-media apparatus.
- Knowledge of standard office and library equipment and ability to troubleshoot basic computer and network issues.
- Understanding of the different patron community's needs, user search behaviors in academic library settings, and other areas of scholarly research.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work requiring sitting or standing for extended periods of time, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling heavy book carts, reaching and lifting. Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 lbs. Library collections are subject to dust, mold, and other airborne particles with which this position will come in contact.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relations with co-workers, students, staff, faculty, University officials, and the general public.
