This position is capable of being remote, but candidates who can commute to our offices in Portland, Chicago, Framingham, or Houston will be preferred to best serve our localized utility clients. Selected candidates may be asked to report to the office as needed.
As a crucial member of our established Project Management Office (PMO), you will provide consulting services to both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. These services involve project management tasks related to engineering design in electrical transmission and distribution, as well as substation and transmission line projects nationwide.
The Substation Design Drafter will work under experienced designers and engineering leads in a fast-paced environment. You will perform various drafting and detailing functions using MicroStation and AutoCAD software for multiple utility clients. You'll collaborate closely with design engineers and other designers to execute substation projects with high quality, efficiency, and productivity while developing CAD skills and growing your independence in the role.
As a Substation Design Drafter, you can expect to:
- Complete drafting assignments for Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communications drawings, including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, Control Building Layouts, and Wiring Diagrams.
- Create Physical Electrical drawings, including General Arrangement, Electrical Plans, Foundation Plans, and Equipment Layouts, tailored to project specifications.
- Provide support for remote office overflow CAD workloads on an as-needed basis, coordinating with other CAD leads on the Leidos team.
Required Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of relevant substation-specific drafting experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD; substation-specific experience is essential.
- Understanding of drafting principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to create and modify drawings based on engineer-provided markups with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in a team environment.
- Highly organized and efficient.
- Capability to understand and implement various client CAD standards.
- Able to perform in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in design, drafting, or a similar field.
- Experience with 3-D modeling in MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems.
- Knowledge of VBA and/or AutoLisp.
- Previous exposure to EPC Substation projects for U.S. electric utilities.
