Job Title: K-8 Dance Teacher - Resident Artist
Supervisor: Chief of Staff or Designee Duration: 5 months
Hours: Based on Availability Monday through Thursday; LMS 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Position SummaryCodman Academy is seeking a Visiting Artist – Lower School Dance Teacher to inspire and engage our youngest learners through movement and creative expression. This part-time role offers a unique opportunity to work with students in grades K–5, introducing them to the joy of dance and helping them develop confidence, coordination, and collaboration skills. The ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity, and a love for teaching dance to children.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop and deliver an engaging, age-appropriate dance curriculum for lower school students.
Teach fundamental dance techniques and creative movement while fostering a sense of joy and exploration.
Incorporate culturally diverse dance styles to broaden students’ understanding and appreciation of the arts.
Create opportunities for students to showcase their work through informal classroom performances or school events.
Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and creativity.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to align lessons with Codman’s mission and values.
Track attendance and provide feedback on student engagement and progress.
Required:
Experience as a dance teacher, choreographer, or performing artist, preferably with children in grades K–5.
Proficiency in introducing various dance styles, creative movement, and foundational techniques.
Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing approach to teaching young learners.
A commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
Preferred:
Background in education, dance, or performing arts.
Familiarity with designing lessons for young children that emphasize movement exploration and creativity.
Experience working in schools or community-based arts programs.
This is a part-time position with competitive hourly compensation, commensurate with experience.
