Job Title: Upper School Dance Teacher - Resident Artist

Supervisor: Chief of Staff or Designee Duration: 4 months

Hours: Monday through Thursday; LMS 12:30 - 2:00 PM

Start Date: Monday, January 23, 2025

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Resident Artist – High School Dance Teacher to lead a dynamic and engaging arts elective for high school students. This credit-bearing course provides students the opportunity to explore various dance styles, develop technical skills, and build confidence in creative expression. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming environment for students of all skill levels, instilling a love of movement and fostering artistic growth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a culturally responsive, engaging, and age-appropriate dance curriculum.

  • Teach and guide students in various dance styles, techniques, and choreography.

  • Facilitate individual and group performances, showcasing student work to the school community.

  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports creativity and self-expression.

  • Collaborate with school staff to align the course with Codman’s mission and graduation requirements.

  • Track attendance, monitor student progress, and provide feedback and grades aligned with school policies.

  • Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging students’ artistic growth and personal development.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience as a dance teacher, choreographer, or performing artist.

  • Proficiency in diverse dance styles (e.g., contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, African dance, ballet, etc.).

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive, engaging learning environment.

  • A commitment to equity, social justice, and fostering cultural awareness through the arts.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field.

  • Prior experience working with high school students in an educational setting.

  • Experience producing or coordinating performances.

Compensation

This is a part-time position with competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience.
