Job description
MLG has an immediate opening for a Legal Research and Writer with 10 plus years’ experience in writing briefs. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to brief writing, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in legal research and writing.
Requirements:Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct extensive legal research and analysis to support brief writing.
- Draft and edit high-quality legal briefs, including appellate briefs, petitions, and other court filings.
- Ensure that all legal briefs adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other staff to ensure that legal briefs are accurate, comprehensive, and effective.
- Review and analyze legal documents and evidence and prepare written memoranda summarizing findings.
- Manage multiple projects and prioritize deadlines effectively.
- Provide guidance and training to junior team members to ensure that all legal briefs are of high quality.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive experience working at the court of appeals drafting published opinions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in legal research tools, such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in law or related field; JD preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in legal research and writing, with a strong focus on brief writing.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills, with a proven ability to produce high-quality legal briefs.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Supervisors – Reports to the Director of Litigation.
Status – Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Location – Beautiful office environment at the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, across from South Coast Plaza.
Salary – Starting at $125k, depending on experience.
