Position Title: VP, TV Scripted

FLSA: Exempt

Compensation Range: $170-190k

Location: Los Angeles, CA (on-site)

The Company has expanded its global footprint to the North American market with its recent acquisition of Fifth Season, and through CJ ENM America, engages in a wide array of businesses across the entertainment industry including media, music, film, performing arts, animation, influencer marketing and conventions. CJ ENM also operates KCON, the largest Korean pop culture fan convention and concert series, which launched in LA as a one-day event in 2012 and has exponentially scaled in four years to become a global event that has expanded from Los Angeles to New York and across the world to destinations like Japan, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Paris.

CJ ENM has played a key role in creating the worldwide Korean entertainment phenomenon, aka Hallyu, building a culture that can be consumed and enjoyed by everyone around the world.

Position Overview: The VP, TV Scripted is responsible for developing projects from existing and future scripted IP, as well as sourcing and developing original projects for new broadcast, cable and streaming networks targeting both US and global audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development phases from original pitch to execution, providing notes in line with the vision of the project.
  • Hear and respond to pitches; evaluate new project submissions to assess their value as it relates to the creative direction.
  • Guide creators from the pitch stage through outline, script, production and post; formulate and draft notes on scripts and cuts.
  • Manage projects in development, support material, pitches, talent and scripts that might be of relevance to the Company.
  • Create and maintain active relationships within the creative community – agents, writers, producers, talent, etc.
  • Track down competitive IP outside the CJ library.
  • Build and enhance relationships with the creative community and agents among a wide range of creative disciplines.

Experience & Skills:

  • 10-12 years of narrative scripted series experience in development at a studio, channel/platform or production company
  • A progressive track record of identifying, acquiring and packaging original programming for broadcast, streaming and premium outlets while attracting and developing top creative talent
  • Excellent relationships with talent, agents, producers and buyers of scripted tv content
  • Ability to skillfully work with content creators to share their vision of the project, understand marketplace demand and think creatively, to strategize as to how this vision can be successfully sold and created
  • Possesses the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high-volume workload
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital in order to liaise with a range of people and personalities, from channel executives to production staff, to talent agents and actors
  • Spoken/written Korean not a requirement, but a plus
