Communications Specialist

Garver is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist to support our client communications and public involvement services in the Transportation Business Line. This fast-paced position will manage various communication tasks to support our clients and provide project-related information to the public.
The successful candidate must have experience with various communication tools and methods, be detail-oriented, excel in written and verbal communication skills, care about documentation processes and checklists, and possess an eye for quality control. Tasks will include developing and carrying out communication plans, copywriting, editing and proofreading, public event planning, and graphic design and layout. The ideal candidate must be able to work as a self-starter, handle multiple tasks at one time, and work within tight deadlines. This role requires frequent interactions with people through in-person meetings, phone calls, virtual meetings, and other direct communication methods.
Primary responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee communication strategies for internal and external messaging on large programs or projects
- Write and manage comprehensive communication plans
- Translate technical information into a clear, public-friendly formats
- Create materials using Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications
- Write and update various types of reports
- Incorporate feedback and edits from multiple team members
- Maintain complete communication records and ensure thorough documentation processes
- Assist with project scope and fee proposals
- Prepare public outreach materials for public involvement meetings, including notifications to stakeholders, news organizations, and the public via newspapers, radio, social media, and direct mail
- Provide event-planning services for public meetings, including scheduling events, securing venues, and ensuring proper setup
- Attend and host in-person and virtual public meetings
- Develop and update content for project websites
- Manage quality control and assurance processes
- Prepare online documents to meet accessibility requirements
- Proven experience with communication plans
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite
- Enjoys working and interacting with people
- 8 years related experience
- Previous experience with communications in the AEC industry
- Experience in developing documents to meet WCAG or Section 508 Compliance
- Experience with public engagement
