Reports to: Director of STEM

Direct reports: N/A

Status: Part time: Tuesday - Friday with some weekends based on needs for special programs

Hours: 1pm - 7pm; hours may vary

Pay Range - $50/hr

Founded in 1938, the Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is a non-profit organization serving youths to help them achieve academic success, build good character and citizenship, and lead healthy lifestyles. In our afterschool and summer camp programs, BGCN's team of dedicated youth development employees help to ensure our members (ages 5-18) are demonstrating good character and citizenship, living a healthy lifestyle, and on-track to graduate from high school with a plan.

We're looking for a person who wants to support the next generation and tap into their full potential of creativity and passion and learning within tech and reports directly to the STEM Director.

The part-time STEM Creative Studio Manager will lead groups of K-12 grade members at our Club House. The manager must be enthusiastic and exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to the communities we serve, and demonstrate the ability to motivate and educate, and have a passion for technology. The candidate will be working with members in STEM related subjects and production. We are building a premier technology education program for kids in Newark, and we are looking for passionate, tech-savvy, and fun educators to teach our unique coding, Minecraft, digital art, game-based learning, and/or robotics, podcasting, content creation and production classes to students during afterschool programming.

Job Duties

You will lead the daily operations and creativity of our STEM branch "Upward Creative Studio", expertly managing multiple STEM projects simultaneously. You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality programming and production. and fostering strong relationships with our students and UCS members. You'll also work in close collaboration with all STEM staff and volunteers and necessary BGCN departments to ensure every project is executed flawlessly. We are looking for a self-starter who can work on their own but can also take direction from others and implement those suggestions in a cordial and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Creative and Production Operations:
  • Oversee daily operations, scheduling for classes, content production calendar, digital presence across various digital platforms.
  • Ensure all software updates, equipment is well-maintained, inventory/tracked, and functioning optimally including projects from students are stored accurately in Upward Creative Studio.
  • Help students with creative projects from ideation to execution such as music creation, live animation, branding and marketing, photography, digital platform content, and design
  • Teach and design promotional graphics and assets to enhance Upward Creative Studio's messaging across social media, email, and the website.
  • Develop, conceptualize, and execute all content for Upward Creative Studio with BGCN members and help them launch, YouTube series, Podcasting, and Photography and any other creative production projects
  • Organize student showcases and events and submit entries for awards related to content creation.

  • UCS Leadership: Mentor and supervise students, providing guidance to rising photographers, videographers, graphic artists, crew members, and other roles that become active in UCS and provide regular updates on Upward Creative Studio and STEM programming to the STEM Director, and manage any UCS staff or volunteers that may come on board
  • Organization and Collaboration: Maintain an organized workflow in a dynamic environment and clearly articulate creative concepts to diverse stakeholders and students across departments and keep projects on schedule and within budget. Collaborate with various stakeholders from business and community to enhance programs mission
  • Copywriting Support: Engage in light copywriting for social posts, landing pages, and email content to support marketing efforts with development team

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in a content-intensive role
  • Minimum of 2-year experience overseeing educational program implementation, supplies and personnel
  • Strong attention to detail and a great eye for production and design, demonstrated through a portfolio
  • Intermediate skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, Procreate, Final Cut, Canva preferred
  • Familiarity with HTML and WordPress preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and familiarity with editing systems and databases
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • English fluency required; additional languages are a plus
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing abilities
  • Collaborative approach with team members, departments, and community organizations

BGCN Responsibilities

  • Serves as a representative of the Boys & Girls Club in a positive and professional manner
  • Helps implement/ build the curriculum and concepts thoroughly to be able to provide value to our club members
  • Manages each class session, ensuring the children are safe, engaged, and having fun by delivering the curriculum in a fun and engaging way
  • Challenge and inspire your members by ensuring the members experience exceeds expectations
  • Keep accurate records for each group and members by administering class assessments
  • Provide extra support to members that may exhibit the need
  • Demonstrate an awareness of different members background and cultures
  • Communicate regularly with direct supervisor and the team
  • Collaborate with the STEM Director to monitor growth and identify strengths and areas of improvement
  • Using data to constantly refine curriculum
  • Participate in periodic BGCN training & staff meetings, as required
  • Implement all curriculum through the lens of using BGCN's What's in an hour and 5 key elements approach
  • Follow and apply all NJ Licensing Standards
  • Must have reliable transportation
